Our eyes are our most expressive part of the face but are also an area where the first signs of ageing can appear. Based in vibrant Royal Tunbridge Wells, award-winning Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Christine Or, offers her advice on the most innovative and best treatments to refresh and rejuvenate your eye area. Below is a round-up of her favourite solutions to help address wrinkles, dark circles. puffiness, and sagging skin in the eye area.

The Best Treatments to Refresh and Rejuvenate your Eye Area

EMface Eyes

EMface Eyes is a game-changing, non-invasive and needle-free treatment that rejuvenates the delicate eye area and reduces eye bags and circles. Using proven RF and HIFES technologies, the EMface treatment is the first and only needle-free procedure that simultaneously treats facial skin and muscles in just a 20-minute session. These synchronised technologies lift, tone and rejuvenate the skin resulting in less wrinkles and more lift, naturally.

EMface is an entirely non-invasive procedure where clinical studies showed a 26% increase in collagen, 37% less wrinkles and 23% more lift. The optimum result is achieved over a course of 4 treatments spaced a week apart, however some patients will benefit from a further 2 treatments. Patients begin to feel tangible results right after the treatments. Optimal results are usually seen 3 months after the last session of a 4-treatment course and continue to improve following the treatment.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency Microneedling combines medical microneedling and radiofrequency to rejuvenate the skin and collagen production of the dermis. It tightens skin, reduces wrinkles and improves under-eye bags. The radio-frequency energy is delivered through gold plated insulated needles allowing precise delivery to the dermis. This causes contraction and controlled trauma to the tissue and stimulates fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin which strengthens and tightens the skin.

The optimum result is achieved over a course of treatments and over a period of months. Depending on the treatment indications a course of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart is usually recommended. Most patients report a noticeable improvement after the first two weeks and report skin feels smoother, softer and looks fresher, but the real changes occur from about 12 weeks.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are used for eye rejuvenation to reduce dark circles, improve skin elasticity and smooth fine lines. They utilise injectable chains of nucleotides - the building blocks of DNA and RNA, to stimulate cell regeneration and repair. Treatment involves injecting polynucleotides into the under-eye area to stimulate collagen and elastin production, enhance hydration and improve skin texture.

Results from polynucleotide treatment can usually be seen around a month after your last treatment and continue to improve over the next few months. The skin in the treated areas will appear less dull and lined as collagen production is stimulated. When treating the eye area, the skin around the eye area may appear brighter, reducing the tired look of dark circles under the eye, and there may be fewer wrinkles and fine lines.

Medical-grade Skincare

As well as in-clinic treatments, there are medical-grade skincare products which have been clinically proven to treat the under-eye area. Dr Christine usually advises her patients to use these products in between their treatments to prolong the results. Eye creams and serums that contain peptides are particularly effective, for example the OBAGI ELASTIderm Eye Cream, which is clinically proven to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in the eye area for a firmer and more resilient look.
