What is SkinPen Microneedling?

As we age, we lose collagen in the skin, and the skin deteriorates leading to fine lines, wrinkles, large pores and uneven skin texture.

SkinPen creates thousands of controlled micro-channels in the skin to trigger the body's natural wound-healing process. This process stimulates the formation and remodelling of collagen which supports the underlying tissue. The result is more youthful, smoother and tighter-looking skin.

Award-winning Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Christine Or, is proud to offer this treatment at her clinic in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Below is all you need to know about the SkinPen Microneedling treatment, what is involved and its many benefits.

What does the SkinPen Microneedling treatment involve?

Medical Microneedling using SkinPen is safe for all skin types. It works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin using fine, sterile needles to stimulate your skin's natural healing process, triggering the production of collagen and elastin - the building blocks of a healthy, youthful complexion.

Before the treatment, a numbing cream is applied for your comfort, and the procedure takes around 30 minutes.

What does the SkinPen Microneedling treatment treat?

Wrinkles, fine lines, skin laxity, some pigmentation and acne scars may be softened, and SkinPen is also great to revive dull tired skin. SkinPen can be used to treat the face, neck, décolletage and the backs of the hands.

SkinPen is not suitable if you are pregnant or breast-feeding, and a detailed medical history should be taken to discuss your skincare concerns and ensure that you are suitable for SkinPen.

Does SkinPen Microneedling hurt?

Most patients do not feel discomfort as a numbing cream is applied before the treatment, however some patients report a feeling of slight vibration or a light scratching sensation.

Is there any downtime after having a SkinPen Microneedling treatment?

After the treatment your skin may feel hot and appear red for at least 24 hours and you may experience some skin peeling over the first few days. It is also advisable to keep the skin clean and avoid make-up for at least 24 hours after treatment. Allow 48 hours for recovery, and do not use retinol skincare products for a week before your treatment and for a week after too.

What results can I expect after a SkinPen Microneedling treatment?

Most patients see results within a few days after a single treatment; however, your skin will continue to improve over the next few months as the collagen is stimulated. I would advise a course of 3 to 6 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Combining SkinPen Microneedling with other treatments such as Mesotherapy and Dermalux LED Phototherapy can improve results, to as well as using medical-grade skincare and a supplement such as Skinade which contains active ingredients essential for your skin's hydration, radiance, elasticity, to maximise collagen stimulation.
